Text Abstract: When choosing a device to use for your personal defense or that of a family member, don't just think about what the device can do. The owner has to be able to carry and operate it correctly for the device to be effective. Here are five important points to consider before buying.
Choosing a Device for Personal Security: Five Points to Consider:
There is no point in buying a device you wont want to carry. Make sure the item you buy is the right size and weight for you. If you are going to put it in a handbag or purse make sure it is not too big to fit, but big enough to find quickly. Some of the devices, like TASERS, are rather large. If the size is putting you off consider the fact that police research shows the TASER X26 is more effective at stopping an assailant than a nine millimeter handgun, and that's even if he/she's on drugs. Most devices have some sort of a safety catch. Look at the pictures and be sure that you will be able to operate it. If you have arthritic hands you may need to try it out before you can decide so check on the retailers return policy.
Some women (and some men) are embarrassed about carrying a personal security device. There's no reason to be, but if that is a concern look at the many types of stun gun which masquerade as something else. You can also find pepper sprays and attack alarms which look like, or are built into, flashlights so no-one knows what you are carrying.
Consider where you go and when. What is likely to happen to you? Are you likely to get a chance to discharge a taser or pepper spray when the assailant is still some distance away or is it more likely that they would sneak up behind you. If so a stun gun which requires bodily contact would be best, but you'd need to have it somewhere you can get to it easily.
The purpose of tasers, stun guns and pepper sprays is to hurt your attacker. You want them to leave you alone. If you think that you wouldn't have the nerve to press the trigger and release the spray or stun, there's no point in buying that type of device. It's worth remembering that police forces use tasers and the company who make them estimate that as a result 100,000 lives have been saved.
The sensation of being 'tased', stunned or sprayed with pepper spray is far from pleasant, but unless the circumstances are extraordinary, it isn't permanent. If you think you might be tempted to hang around to check that the attacker you just sprayed is OK, it might be better for you to have an attack alarm. These are designed to be loud enough to attract attention, but many are also loud enough to surprise an attacker, giving you a chance to get away.
Remember your safety is the prime concern. You are as much part of the system as the device is, so choose accordingly.

iSAFE Backpacks and Bags – Your own
personal bodyguard!
Just last
month I received an e-mail informing me about this new one of a kind iSAFE backpack
with a built-in alarm. Since my web site sells personal safety products I was
curious to see what this new product was all about.
Subsequently,
at my first opportunity, I contacted the manufacturer and acquired all the
information about the iSAFE Backpacks and Bags. What I found out is that these are the first backpacks to actually have two
very loud, 130db loud, alarms built into the sides of the backpack and a strobe
light in the back. What a concept!
I
immediately purchased a backpack to try.As soon as the iSAFE Backpack arrived I put it on and followed the
directions to activate the alarm. Wowwww… the sound coming out of this backpack
is amazing! I couldn’t wait to replace the pin so the sound would stop. Once my
space was quiet again my ears were ringing for a couple of minutes.
I then
proceeded to imagine all the uses for this iSAFE Backpack. I can see children,
8 years of age and up, walking to and from the school bus, college students
walking to the library at night, business man and women, individuals of all
ages hiking in the woods, joggers, and walkers all wearing an alarm backpack, the
alarm messenger bag or the soon to be
released (November 2011) Waist pack .
I have to
say that with these iSAFE Backpacks the ability to scare away the proverbial “boogie
man” and or get immediate help when you really need it has significantly
increased.
Additional information on how to activate the alarm on the iSAFE backpack will be discussed on the next post.

Self Defense Products - College Survival Kit
Colleges and Universities all over the country are opening their doors this month to young people seeking to be educated. This is nothing new; however, are these young people, especially young ladies, prepared with the right self defense products to defend themselves against the "crazies" of this world? The answer is most probably NOT!!! Why, you may ask? Because either they don't know that there is such a thing as a College Survival Kit or they feel like nothing "bad" could ever happen to them. Too many individuals have a false sense of security and prefer to just ignore the issue.
It is true that Colleges and Universities are increasing their security efforts. After all, if they didn't a parent would not agree to send their child there. None the less, it is every young person's right and responsibility to do everything in their power to protect themselves as well by carrying self defense products such as those found in the College Survival Kit. What better going away to college present than self defense products?
Parents and Friends, take a look at the College Survival Kit and help a college bound young person feel more secure and confident as they embark in College life.
